The Background

SHINE originates from the success of HiFES, which is an initiative to lead innovations in hybrid flexible electronics. This establishment has led to the transition from HiFES to SHINE. Moving forward, SHINE will continue to enable system approaches to flexible electronics via integrating materials, device fabrication and design. In addition, SHINE will spearhead the development of next-generation hybrid-integrated microelectronics in Singapore, and address the grand challenges of next-generation IoT technologies.

SHINE is built on top of NUS investments from the HiFES research programme on Hybrid Integrated Flexible Electronic Systems and the E6NanoFab, NTU investment on iFLEX on flexible devices.

The capabilities include:

Unique Proposition

By working across NUS, NTU, A*STAR-IME, DSO National Labs and SIMTech, SHINE seeds a National Heterogeneous Integration pilot line locally that is capable of unique “Mix-&-Match” hybrid electronic technologies.

By partnering with specialty foundries, low-volume production capabilities can be enabled.

High-volume production can then be enabled by technology-transfer partnerships with larger foundries if the need arises.

Hence, SHINE becomes a flexible innovation hub for heterogeneous integration technology in Singapore.

This spurs the growth of innovative specialty semiconductor technology businesses benefitting and attracting R&D investments of major technology companies in Singapore.
