Professor Antonio Helio Castro Neto is the founder and Director of the National University of Singapore (NUS) Centre for Advanced 2D Materials and Co-Director of the NUS Institute for Functional Intelligent Materials, Distinguished Professor in the NUS Department of Materials Science Engineering as well as Department of Physics. He is also a Professor at NUS Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.

Prof Castro Neto obtained his PhD in Physics from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1994. He is a leading condensed matter theorist who has achieved world recognition for his work in rare earths, actinides, and 2-Dimensional materials. He also develops transformative technologies based on 2D crystals. He was elected as a fellow of the American Physical Society (2003), American Association for the Advancement of Science (2011) and the Singapore National Academy of Science (2020), as well as a member of the Brazilian Academy of Science.

In recent years, he founded 2D Materials Pte Ltd, MADE Advanced Materials Pte Ltd, and Graphene Watts Pte Ltd.
